power to the people. OOORAH

so I just finished writing my rationale and something hit me. Basically what I was trying to say is get by without power it is possible. i promise! by taking the power away from eskom who doesnt even really have the power to give, we can bring the power back into our homes.

whos with me?

stolen link

so i gapped this link from a friend.
in some underhanded way i think it relates to my outlook
what you think?
YALL?

oh heres the link
http://blogs.thetimes.co.za/blogumists/2008/01/31/eskom-puts-the-magic-backing-in-romance/

rabble

so finally im getting somewhere....
the idea has evolved/changed a tad, but still fits the brief...
will check that.
instead of expelling the monsters, the children will make 'friends' with them.
how?
well the kit will include a DIY process of makin your very own monsters

~i apoloise for any missin g's my keyboard is fucked~

so now the child has an interactive process to partake in when the power is out.
making stuff really is an old school idea, but with the unreliability of the power cuts kids need something to do- cos now the computer and the xbox and the playstation are not gonna work.

this system also stems from the build a bear concept which has taken sa by storm- and has since been heavily challenged by an identical, yet cheaper option, which i foret the name of at present.

so now heres the situation-powers out, kid needs somethin to do. now remember im talking younger kids, who arent snotty and bratty....
so they can now create somethin which they can keep.
assuming the power cut is in the dark, obviously you need some light to be able to make something. perhaps the idea falls a little short here, but i dont think so. with very little light- supplied by a small touch light, candle, torch, the moon even- the creation can be made.

so what i have told you right now is the product that the designer is making and taking care of.

the grand question is then how do i take this into a multimedia concept.?
okay- i can use the multimedia aspect to market this product.
ive got two target markets.
the kids, who have no income, but they have something which may be considered more powerful, the nag factor.
and the parents who have the money.

for the kids i propose a tv ad, to draw them into the product, to be screened at kiddie tv times- duting ktv and wildroom etc.....
the ad will not hinder too much on the power outtaes but just link to the dark and stuff......still need to work on this.

for the parents- idea one is a viral pop up. not a congratulations you are the 1000000000000000000000th doos who has read this but just a teaser for the site. a monster jumping out the screen and writin a message. something of that nature.....
idea two, to maybe be used in conjunction is a website. a flash website because it is not entirely informative so it doesnt need to house lots of information.
as part of the website there will be monster profiling-which obvioulsy isnt for the moms but maybe they can share that with their kids.
an online store.
tips for attending to the childs fear of possibly the dark or bein alone
maybe a blog for moms to post what they think works and stuff.

ya so thats where i am.
so im looking at the brief now and looking if i meet it.
"positive contribution to the present situation of South Africa in relation to the publics experience of the energy crisis".
i feel this is met. in passing and chatting i have found that families are spendin more time toether cos of the power crisis- cause there arent all these distractions to now pry them away.
kids are often scared of the dark and concerned with monsters and get bored quickly- i feel that this product looks at this problem and tackles it.
boredom can be met, the parents can interact with their child doin this......

~again sorry bout the g situation~

"the only criteria is that it improves the situation in some way"
i believe it does its somethin to do, for a child to do, instead of gettin caught up in all the moaning and whining and complaining.

"the objective"- the objective of my communication is to get the idea of the product out there.
to let people- well kids, know that all is not lost because you cant watch tv or play videogames. without sounding like a lame old person.haha
"the target market"-well that has been discussed up there somewhere
"tone"- the tone is fun, its playful, its a lighthearted take on this crap situation. everyone knows its crap but lets just carry on.
y'know what i mean?

let me know what you think

what a brilliant fireworks display

olrighty then......after much dilly dallying around- i mean thinking about the brief although its not all recorded here i have come up with an idea.

well its not entirely my idea but i dont consider it stealing because i have permission and am basically a co-partner. come on people dont judge, help me justify this in my head (",)

k so the idea is as follows. young children are the target market, and the objective is to help them with their fear of the dark. which happens more often because of the power going out.

a monster expulsion kit!! something edible for the kids to make and a card to collect of all the mosters theyve expelled.

how imgoing to take it further is to create an online store for the product and therafter expand the site for downloadable things to keep the kids entertained, tips for parents and whatever else i can come up with....

can i get a boom-chicka-chicka-wah!

do you smell burning?

okay, so the way i see it, those that decide to stay here. poor, poor us..... have 3 options, acceptance, action or winging. personally i am a blatant culprit of option 3, but really think that option 2 is best.
So in doing some research i found loads of info about alternatives to electricity-as supplied by eskom.
so theres solar and tidal and wind and human fesces etc etc....and one site in particular actually ended up putting them all down....with justification
and then i encountered a frickin goldmine let me tell you!!!!!
Researchers or developers or something like that at UJ, have innovated an advancement of solar power which makes it alot more affordable!!! like really.
And then i found more info about how in new york they are saving power by doing simple things and one main initiative is to switch to CFL which are basically lightbulbs which use waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less electricity. Literally up to 75% less.
~wow!i feel like its my birthday with all this good news~

so then i had a brainwave, no that was not an earth tremor, that was in fact my brainwave!

By not using as much electricity load shedding wont need to happen....duh!!!
so listen, assuming most people are actually trying to be a little more energy effecient theres a saving, however small it may be.
now, instead of those who have the money going and buying a generator which is costing them loads more than electricity from eskom, one could rather put in solar panels, using this new south african developed technology. start up may be expensive but its much of a muchness by comparison to a generator and thereafter maintenance is much less than a generator. also, if we look one step further, eskom could set up a system where they buy electricity from people who produce it. Now these people could in fact be ordinary businesses and households- who have the money to install solar power.
now add that to the light systems.
got it?
good.
so these people are not only helping the environment but they could end up saving and possibly even making money.
do you see what im getting at?
i call this idea CAPITALIST HIPPIE.
let me know what you think

vent....

maybe i could ease the situation by just giving people a place to vent. by doing so, assuming a cause and effect relationship, i may be able to stop our crime rate from rising even further. people release their frustrations thus slightly lowering stress and anger levels, thus lessening the chances of them going and potentially harming people/s who are at the forefront of this problem.....hmm. but wait there is already a site for that, surprise surprise, eskomstories.co.za

the world is in turmoil and we are quite simply fucked

so ive been doing some research and the entire world is experiencing an energy crisis.yikes!but there problem is more from an environmental stand point that eventually we are going to run out of fossil fuels and thus be unable to create electricity. here were not too concerned about that just yet. nope. the rest of the world is in fear of complete turmoil and we are just too, ummm, too, fuck i dont know, inadequate to even supply the electricity!!
